How We Treat
Vestibular Maneuvers and Rehabilitation
- Vertigo is a sensation that the room is spinning when your body is still. There are multiple origins of dizziness and in PT we will determine the root cause of your symptoms.
-
BPPV: Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
-
Treatment is with repositioning maneuvers such as the Epley Maneuver
-
-
Vestibulopathy: decreased activity of one of the nerves that tells your brain what position your head is in causing a feeling of instability.
-
Treatment includes causing symptoms to get your brain adjusted to the symptoms which will eventually reduce and likely eliminate them.
-
-
Stroke: If a stroke is suspected we refer out to other medical providers. If a stroke has been diagnosed, PT can help recover the deficits suffered from the insult.
-
Brain Injury / Concussion: vestibular rehabilitation can improve tolerance of life activities that can provoke symptoms from concussion or brain injury.
-
Meniere's Disease: practicing movements that provoke symptoms can decrease the sensitivity through a process called "habituation"
